We recently caught up with Simona O’Neill who tells us about 70Lives – the platform for curious people who expect more from themselves and their life.
Simona tells us about how her wide range of experience has led her to create 70Lives and how she helps her clients to find courage and confidence to become the best and happiest version of themselves. Check it out…
So tell us about yourself and what led you to set up in business ?
I’ve worked in a number of different industries and roles for the past 20 years. I went from teaching, to managing sports & fitness facilities, to tax accounting, tech sales, GTM management and running my own consulting business. I just always loved learning something new. It’s probably the most valuable thing one can do for themselves. You know that old saying “Curiosity killed the cat…but satisfaction brought it back”? Well I don’t believe in that. I like to phrase it slightly differently. “Curiosity gave the cat a purpose to live 70 lives”. And that’s where the idea was born for 70Lives Generation – the platform for curious people who expect more from themselves and their life.
What are the types of services that you you provide and what problems that you solve for your customers?
So many people waste years in jobs they hate. They get stuck for one reason or the other and never end up doing the things they love and enjoy. That dread of going into work, constant chasing of the weekend, boredom and that feeling of being stuck in a vicious circle can make people very sad. Some want a change, but lack the courage to try something new. Some want to try something new, but aren’t willing to take the potential risks. Or sometimes they simply don’t know what else they’d like or could do. It happens to both, young and old. At 70Lives we help people find their purpose. We give them the tools and the confidence to become the best and happiest version of themselves. We listen to them, guide them and fill the gaps in information and education. We do this through mentorship, online courses and group events.
What is the most challenging aspect of running a business / working freelance?
Being the Jack of all trades. Everything just takes much longer when it’s just you or a small team of people. Especially when you’re only starting out. You have to wear many hats and think of every aspect of your business. It can be very difficult to find time to focus on just one thing, so it can be quite overwhelming at times.
How do you stay inspired and motivated to run your business / work freelance?
To be honest, I absolutely love running my own business. When you have that inner drive to build something that not only gives you the sense of accomplishment, but has the real purpose of helping others, you are naturally motivated. If you love what you do, even the toughest tasks won’t feel like a chore.
What one piece of advice would you share with other members on how to overcome business setbacks?
Stay creative and work on your problem solving skills. Setbacks are inevitable, so don’t be afraid of them. Each time you have a setback it’s an opportunity for you to build resilience. As Martin Luther King Jr. said – “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”
Share your hidden gem about Dublin
Not sure I have any in Dublin, but if you ever fancy an evening walk by the sea and a nice glass of wine, jump on the Dart to Bray. There’s a fab little place called Conlon’s Wine Bar right beside the seafront.
